Antigoni Buxton says she "manifested" Cyprus' place in the Eurovision Song Contest through prayers and church visits.
Antigoni Buxton, who will represent Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, said that her participation was a dream come true for her – a wish that she "manifested" through regular prayer and visits to church.
In an interview that aired yesterday, the singer spoke for the first time about her feelings after the official announcement by the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC). In May next year, she will compete in Vienna, Austria, at the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
"I'm overjoyed and incredibly grateful," said Buxton. "Even as a child, I dreamed of one day being on the Eurovision stage for Cyprus. I often go to church, light candles and pray. When I received the news, I was completely overwhelmed – I hadn't expected it. Now I feel ready to represent my country with pride."
Her entry for the competition is currently still in progress, she further revealed, but it will be strongly inspired by the culture and musical tradition of Cyprus.
"I want my song to make the soul of Cyprus palpable – with authentic sounds and maybe even some words in Greek. I'm not afraid of the competition - on the contrary, I'm looking forward to it and want to give it my all," she said and thanked her fans for the numerous positive feedbacks, which had given her "a lot of good energy".
The semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 are scheduled for May 12 and 14, with the grand final taking place on May 16 in Vienna.
Antigoni Buxton, daughter of Cypriot parents, was born and raised in North London. She first became known for her participation in the British reality TV show Love Island before making a name for herself as a musician.
