Police warn of increasing SMS scams targeting crypto users
The police's Cybercrime Division has issued a new warning about a rise in fraudulent SMS messages and urged the public to remain vigilant against scams targeting cryptocurrency users.
According to an official statement, scammers are sending mass SMS messages to randomly selected recipients, falsely posing as representatives of Binance, a well-known cryptocurrency exchange. The messages claim that an unauthorized login attempt from abroad has been detected, after which recipients are asked to call a phone number provided in the message.
Authorities warn that the ultimate goal of scammers is to trick victims into revealing their login details to give criminals access to their accounts. Police have confirmed that these messages are scams and stress that recipients should not respond to them or interact with the sender in any way.
Given the growing threat, law enforcement agencies advise the public to enable two-factor authentication for all online accounts and never share passwords or personal login information with third parties.
Police continue to monitor the situation and urge anyone who receives such messages to report them immediately. By remaining cautious and taking strict security measures, users can protect themselves from becoming victims of cyber fraud.
