Legally secure emigration to Cyprus
Legally secure emigration to Cyprus
Dear Expats - Community,Lately
we have been observing a rather peculiar trend: More and more people who have just emigrated themselves are suddenly mutating into "consultants", and agencies are springing up like mushrooms – many of them seem to have one thing in mind: to make fun of others. Typically German? Unfortunately, yes. Envy, resentment and the old "I don't even begrudge you the black under your fingernail" principle apparently celebrate happily here.
We accompany emigrants and company founders – but we are not consultants or classic agencies. We only pass on experience and recommendations: from lawyers, tax consultants, doctors, craftsmen, everyday contacts – in short: everything you need for life in Cyprus.
And yes, we charge exactly zero euros for it. Apparently a problem for some emigrants – they prefer to pay handsomely to feel "safe".

If you like it simple, go to a licensed lawyer, get an offer there, and everything is done in a legally secure manner. The prices of reputable lawyers and tax advisors are almost identical – and even cheap by European standards.
Who are agencies for?
If you need an all-round service with form-filling assistants, personal tour guide and constant entertainment - please. Book and pay. But let's be honest: If you pay a "consultant" who in the end only refers to a lawyer anyway, you can save yourself that right away.

We speak from experience:
Almost 5 years ago, we emigrated to Cyprus with our family of 5 (plus dog) from the deepest Bavarian Forest – with school English. Without an agency. Without an advisor.
Yellow Slip? Done by yourself.
Registration of residence? Homemade.
Company registration? Easily done in 3 months with a recommended lawyer + tax advisor.
If we can do that, why can't others?
So please save yourself the bullshit talk of "Only with an agency does it work!". Trust is important – but not blind obedience to deceptors.
A quick practical check: What do you really have to do?
Registering your place of residence
Visit the Residents' Registration Office (registration office) – with your passport and, if applicable, a certified birth certificate.
All information can be found on the official website of the Cypriot government – in English and Greek. Translation? Use the browser plugin – done. If you want it faster, within 5 working days, you should hire a lawyer here. (Which we have checked)

Establish a company (e.g. LTD)

Go to a lawyer/tax consultant → choose the legal form → clarify approvals if necessary → registration with the commercial register → done.
A conscientious lawyer also offers the service of applying for a tax number and applying for the social security number right away.
If you are still with a certified tax advisor or accounter, you will not miss the other submission deadlines and tax requirements. If you are proficient in the Greek language, you can of course test this on your own. however, we recommend the first option.
What we have learned in recent years here in Cyprus. There are good qualified lawyers and tax experts for Cyprus. But when it comes to German/European/international tax law, it sometimes gets hot and you should always get to know AI and tax advisors in advance in the country where you want to optimize taxes.
According to the motto: "Pension is better than back payment"

🎯 Conclusion:
If you have simple goals, you don't need an agency or consultant, just a licensed lawyer and tax advisor/accounter.
For complex holding or offshore structures: We recommend a real specialist with proven competence.
But: Intermediaries and hobby advisors without knowledge are no help, but only cause costs and spread half-knowledge.
