The Cypriot police are intensifying their road safety measures around the Christmas, New Year and Epiphany holidays.
According to the authorities, the increased controls will begin on December 22 and will be carried out nationwide until January 6, 2025.

More presence on all roads
Due to the expected increased traffic volume during the holidays, the police will significantly expand their presence on both main roads and secondary routes. The focus of the patrols is on the following areas:
- Urban areas: Controlling increased traffic volumes and congestion in urban zones
- Motorways and interurban roads: Ensuring a safe flow of traffic on expressways
Focus on the five most common causes of
accidentsAs part of the campaign, the police are targeting five traffic offences that are statistically considered to be the main causes of fatal accidents and serious injuries on Cyprus' roads:
- Excessive speed – driving at an inappropriate or excessive speed
- Alcohol and drug consumption at the wheel – Driving under the influence of intoxicating substances
- Inattention – Use of mobile phones while driving
- Lack of protective measures – Non-use of seat belts or safety helmets
- Dangerous driving behaviour – Reckless or risky manoeuvring in road traffic
The police appeal to all road users to drive carefully, especially during the holidays, and to comply with the applicable traffic rules.
