A car drove into a group of people in Munich. At least 28 people are said to be injured, including two seriously injured, according to police. The perpetrator is said to be a 24-year-old Afghan citizen who is in Germany as an asylum seeker.
One person was reportedly resuscitated on site, but according to initial information it was a child. However, several people are in a critical condition. Officers from the Institute of Forensic Science are currently searching the vehicle. A police sniffer dog is also in use.
Police and ambulances were on site. An eyewitness reported that the car drove into strikers at a Verdi rally. According to information from NIUS, the incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. - at the intersection of Dachauer Strasse and Seidlstrasse near Königsplatz. Both eyewitnesses and the police agree that the incident was not an accident, but a deliberate act. The car was a Mini Cooper.

According to the police, only one man was in the car. Immediately after the car attack in Munich, a video shows the arrest of a man. He is surrounded by people and pinned to the ground by police officers. The driver is said to be 24-year-old Afghan Farhad N., who was in Germany as an asylum seeker. N. is known to the police for drug offenses and shoplifting.
As reported by Der Spiegel, N. was born in Kabul in 2001. He is said to have come to Germany at the end of 2016, but the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) rejected his asylum application. The Afghan was later granted a temporary residence permit, which meant that he could not be deported. According to information from Der Spiegel, N. is said to have posted Islamist posts before the crime.
Police allegedly shot at car windows
"I went with the demonstration," an eyewitness told Bayerischer Rundfunk . When the car drove into the crowd, he ran towards it. "I saw that a man was lying under the car. Then I tried to open the door, but it was locked." Eventually the police came and shot at the car window, so he retreated and took care of the injured, the report continues.
Videos on social media show heavily armed police officers walking through the cordoned-off street to the crime scene. A helicopter is currently circling over the affected area. Other footage shows people in high-visibility vests, participants in the demonstration, caring for injured people.
Eyewitness sees injured child
The journalist of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation , Sandra Demmelhuber, wrote on X: "There was an incident in Munich at the Verdi rally. A car drove into the demonstration. A person was lying on the street and a young man was taken away by the police. People are sitting on the ground, crying and shaking. Details are still unclear." Another eyewitness told Bild that the Mini I hit a woman with a child. The demonstrator: “Mother and child are said to have been lying under the car.”
