1. CDU/CSU calls for review of state-supported NGOs
After the 2025 federal election, the CDU/CSU parliamentary group submitted a minor inquiry to the Bundestag questioning the political neutrality of state-supported organizations. 17 non-governmental organizations are affected, including "Omas gegen Rechts", BUND, Greenpeace and Correctiv. The inquiry includes 551 questions about the financing and political stance of these NGOs. Critics see this as an attack on democracy and civil society, especially in connection with the recent protests against right-wing extremism in Germany and Austria.

2. Greens call for constitutional amendment for increased security spending
The Greens have proposed an amendment to the Basic Law to allow for higher spending on defense and security. They have given the CDU/CSU and SPD a week's deadline to reach an agreement. In addition to traditional security spending, measures such as foreign aid, the protection of the civilian population and the strengthening of international organizations should also be taken into account. CDU politician Thorsten Frei sees opportunities for compromise, while former Chancellor Merkel emphasizes the need for increased defense spending.
