Trump will sign a whole series of executive orders on day one. What are his priorities?
President-elect Donald Trump has announced a flurry of actions for his first day, and executive orders are already ready for his signature. These orders will end funding for diversity, equity and inclusion, restrict border crossings, and loosen regulation of oil and natural gas production. The Republican has announced dozens of actions, but it's unclear whether he will follow through on his promise to implement them all on day one.

America First
Trump will sign an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. And North America's highest mountain, now called Mount Denali, will be renamed Mount McKinley, as it was called until President Barack Obama renamed it.
The renaming is intended to honor "American greatness," according to a preview of the order published online by Trump's future press secretary.

immigration
Much of the executive action on the border is borrowed from Trump's strategy from his first term. He will declare a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border, send U.S. troops to assist immigration authorities and limit refugee and asylum admissions. He has also promised to reinstate a policy that forced asylum seekers to wait across the border in Mexico. Authorities have not said, however, whether Mexico would again accept migrants. During previous efforts, squalid and smelly camps marred by gang violence sprung up along the border. Trump also promises to abolish citizenship by birth, but it is unclear how he will do that - it is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.
The economy
The economy
Trump will soon sign orders easing regulatory burdens on oil and natural gas production, including one related to Alaska. He will also sign a memorandum calling for a broad-based government approach to lowering inflation. But he appears to be holding back on his threat to impose tariffs on China, Mexico, Canada and other countries for now. He also appears hesitant on higher import tariffs: One designated official referred reporters to a Wall Street Journal article saying he would simply sign a memorandum calling on federal agencies to investigate trade issues.
Diversity, equality and inclusion and transgender rights
Diversity, equality and inclusion and transgender rights
Trump is rolling back protections for transgender people and ending diversity, equity, and inclusion programs within the federal government. Both are major changes in federal policy and are in line with Trump's campaign promises. An executive order would declare that the federal government would recognize only two immutable genders: male and female. And they would be defined by whether people are born with eggs or sperm, not by their chromosomes. Under the executive order, federal prisons and shelters for migrants and rape victims would be segregated by gender, as defined in the executive order. And federal tax dollars could not be used to fund "transitional services."
A separate executive order halts DEI programs and directs the White House to identify and terminate them within the government.
Thanks to Trump, the war in Ukraine seems to be gaining momentum; many - not least the Ukrainians themselves - are hoping for more dynamism through his negotiating tactics. Is there a chance of a lasting ceasefire with Trump's help?
